COMMISSION RELEASES FIRST FEMALE FOOTBALL STRATEGY
February 18, 2020
The AFL Goulburn Murray Commission has released the region’s first Female Football Strategy following its inaugural Female Football Forum held in November last year.
The Strategy establishes the key pillars of Participation, Competitions, Off Field and Talent with strategic objectives developed to drive initiatives and activities across all levels.
AFL Goulburn Murray Region General Manager highlighted the quickly evolving female football space as a key driver in the need for a strategy.
“The rise in female football participation over the past few years has been astronomical with the introduction of AFLW in 2017 driving further growth at community level” he said.
“Participation numbers in the Goulburn Murray across all areas have grown significantly, especially over the past 18 months and it was important we got stakeholders into the one room to discuss the growth of the game and where we wanted to take it.”
“Girls in Auskick, female school competitions and Youth Girls participation is growing rapidly and with the establishment of the Northern Country Women’s League at the senior level, its important we have a coordinated and strategic approach to maximise the opportunity.”
“We had a great attendance at the forum last November and the input from clubs, Leagues, TAC Cup, Commissioners, AFL Victoria and Richmond FC representatives has gone a long way to pulling this together.”
“The framework and many of the initiatives coming from that forum were then added to and refined at the AFL Goulburn Murray staff conference in December before the final Strategy document was presented to the Commission last week.”
“The Strategy covers off all areas of female participation at the community level and will be a key driver of our activities and programs over the next four years.”
